Last year, a boy was paralyzed by a stray bullet shot by a man robbing a gas station in Oakland. The boy was taking a piano lesson in a nearby building and could have been killed.
His words yesterday in court after the sentencing of the gunman? “I forgive you.”
This 12-year-old boy will hopefully be leading seminars in forgiveness soon. I imagine Tony Robbins has already been in touch with him with a contract for appearances. I mean, come on… if only we adults could learn from this child – from this unusual good news of hope coming out of a situation of despair.
If you’re having trouble forgiving your parents or your aggressor or your neighbor or your spouse’s indiscretions, consider this boy’s experience a worthy sign of what’s possible.
