I’ll give an example of how brilliantly unschooling works – a model of education that allows children to follow their bliss rather than following the person in front of them when the bell rings.
Gianna is introduced to Harry Potter books. Reads the first one, the second, the third. Before we know it, she’s read the series and is starting it all over again.

She becomes interested in chess, since that game plays a role in the first book.
Subject: Math
She learns about Harry Potter trivia games on the web and enjoys answering the questions.
Subject: SAT test preparation
She watches the movies over and over and over again.
Subject: Film (ha!)
She listens to the books on CD over and over and over again.
Subject: Acting (ha!)
Eight months after first reading the books, she hears her dad play the Harry Potter theme song on piano. Learns it in five minutes. Plays it whenever she passes by the piano.
